ROAD CONSTRUCTION IN BOISE, ID

The Treasure Valley's population is growing rapidly, driving a surge in construction for new neighborhoods, underground utilities, and roadways. To accommodate this growth, existing roads often need to be excavated for the installation of new power and sewer lines, followed by meticulous repairs to restore the surface.

FROM ROAD EXCAVATION TO PAVING

Steps in the road construction process:

1. Planning: Road construction or expansion begins with a detailed planning phase. Our team of experienced professionals provides comprehensive assistance with project planning, drafting, and obtaining the necessary permits to ensure a smooth start.
2. Grubbing: Clearing the construction site is a significant task. All obstructions such as buildings, fences, and vegetation must be removed to create a clear path for the new roadway.
3. Excavation: After the site is cleared, heavy machinery is used to excavate the soil, creating a stable foundation for the road.
4. Grading: Proper grading is essential to ensure a solid base for the road and to facilitate adequate drainage. This final stage of site preparation is critical before the construction of the road’s layers begins.
5. Subgrade, Sub-base, and Base Layers: The road is built on a system of layers, starting with the subgrade and progressing to the sub-base and base. These compacted layers provide the foundational support needed to handle vehicle loads.
6. Binder Layer: This key middle layer transfers the load from the road's surface to the base, ensuring the road’s structural integrity.
7. Wearing Layer: The top layer, made from asphalt concrete, forms the visible driving surface and provides the road's characteristic appearance.
8. Rigid Pavement: The rigid pavement acts as a load distributor, spreading pressure evenly across the road’s surface, prolonging its service life and minimizing strain on the subgrade.
9. Marking: Road markings such as lane lines are applied to guide traffic and enhance safety.
At Granite Excavation, Inc., we pride ourselves on delivering top-quality road construction services. From the earliest stages of planning to the completion of new, expanded, or repaved roads, we bring our expertise and commitment to every project.

ASPHALT, GRAVEL, OR CONCRETE ROAD CONSTRUCTION

Each type of road material offers distinct advantages.
Asphalt: Made from a blend of aggregate stone and bitumen, asphalt is the most commonly used material for highways and neighborhood roads due to its flexibility and quick installation.
Gravel: A cost-effective, unpaved option, gravel roads provide improved drainage, prevent erosion, and offer good traction for vehicles. Ideal for rural or less-traveled areas.
Concrete: Known for its strength and longevity, concrete roads are heavier and more durable than other types. While they take longer to construct, their extended lifespan makes them ideal for high-traffic or industrial areas.
